This is a strategic position within the SCRER Department and one that carries authority across departments and can negotiate on behalf of the Council. The post holder will play a significant role in delivering the Council’s statutory duties under NRSWA and Traffic Management Act regulations within an area of 87km² that extends from Upper Norwood in the north to Old Coulsdon in the south which is supported by a road network of 726km.

The London Borough of Croydon’s Network Management Team is looking for a highly motivated and organised individual to join its Street Works Permit Team as a Assistant Custodian and streetworks administrator. As a member of the team you will be required to assist us in fulfilling our responsibilities under the New Roads and Street Works Act and the Traffic Management Act and in doing so ensure that we maximise the benefits of operating a permit scheme. The duties will primarily include assessing and approving or refusing permit and licence applications to carry out works and issuing fixed penalty notices for non compliant notifications and breaches of permit conditions. One of the other main roles would be to assist in  maintaining the Council’s Street Gazetteer and you will be required to assist with its maintenance. At times you may also need to be involved with raising invoices.

In carrying out the duties of this post you will be required to use Confirm’s Street Works Register software extensively for gazetter work along with Streetmanager as Croydon have recently moved across to assessing permits directly on Streetmanager. Ideally you should have a thorough knowledge of the legislation surrounding street works.

The position is based in Bernard Weatherill House which is close to East Croydon Station.

If you wish to make a positive contribution to minimise disruption caused by street works we would like to hear from you. For an informal chat about the position please telephone Scott Wallace on 07436038677
