Croydon Council is proud of the service it provides through its crematorium, three cemeteries and Public Mortuary. To help further improve our standards we are seeking to recruit to the following post: 


We are looking for a dedicated and highly motivated person to join the team of General Assistants in Bereavement Services. In this role you should be willing to undertake a wide range of duties to assist us in the daily work of the service.


As well as a commitment to the ongoing development of the service we provide, you will also be committed to customer care and be able to deal sensitively and sympathetically across a range of situations with visitors to our cemeteries and crematorium.


The main duties of the role include security, housekeeping, caretaking duties, cleaning, ‘out of hours contact’ for visitors and funeral directors, basic administration duties, attendance at funerals, chapel duties and general horticultural works. The General Assistants also provide back up to the Crematorium team.


Four General Assistants work in teams of two who share these responsibilities. Evening work, week-end duties and all public holidays are covered on a shift rota basis.


A full driving license with C1 & C2 certification is desirable and the ability to drive vans and larger vehicles.
